Fall Festival news!

The annual Fall Festival is rapidly approaching and our students are in for many fun activities to fill the afternoon of November 1.
The  morning kindergarten will be participating in all of the same activities as the afternoon classes during their regular school time.
The collaborative art activities will include a pumpkin patch mural painting for each kindergarten class, a fall tree mural for each first grade class and in the second grade a new spin on creating a scarecrow.
Many thanks in advance for all the volunteer help that is essential to organizing and facilitating a day like this. Behind the scenes preparation and participation during the events is greatly appreciated! I also want to thank all those who donated supplies needed for this event! Together we all make Underhill a great place to be!

Off and creating in September !

We have had a great start to the school year at the Underhill School Art Room!
The Boucher Bunch, the first kindergarten group to have art this year, have begun studying color, one of the elements of art. We have explored the primary colors, secondary colors, warm colors and cool colors. All of the creations are being collected and will be compiled into a book that the children will bring home when their trimester in art is complete.

In first grade we have been learning about the parts of a landscape - foreground, middle ground and background and creating a beautiful fall scene. We also explored mixing the primary colors yellow and red to make orange so we could have warm colored leaves on our fall trees. Once these masterpieces are done the students will do a writing piece with their classroom teachers to describe the art work. This will be the first of many projects that will be included the first grade art book.
The second graders also began the school year with a crayon resist fall landscape project with added textured warm colored leaves. This will be included in their second grade art book with a  descriptive writing piece they will complete with their classroom teachers. Our next focus was a unit on Andy Warhol and Pop Art. The children created six apple prints, to connect their study of Johnny Appleseed, in complementary colors and assembled the prints to create one piece of art.
We have a very exciting year planned and the next update will include current projects and our plans for the November 1st Fall Festival. We will need many parent volunteers to help with art projects !
